We needed to take a short plane ride from Aswan to get to Abu Simbel. There we found a very famous temple which most people know by sight but have no clue what its name is. The temperature on that day was near 120. Luckily it did not stop me from exploring the temples.
There are 2 temples on the site. Both would have been covered by water when the Aswan High Dam was built, so both we moved piece by piece. Even though the outside facades were enormous, the insides were carved from the rock like the Valley of the Kings. The scale of the site was overwhelming.
